Can I use the OptiMate 4 CANbus via the DIN socket only?
No, you can also connect directly to the battery. You will need to use the clamps or even better, use the O-01 eyelet cable which can be fitted permanently to the battery.
Can I use the OptiMate 4 CANbus via the DIN socket only?
A new OptiMate 4 CANbus is programmed from the factory in the CANbus program. You can use the OPtiMate 4 in this program if you want to charge/maintain your battery over the DIN socket of your BMW.
Can I save a dead flat battery with the CANbus program?
The voltage that can be sent over the CANbus system is limited. It’s recommended you to connect directly to the battery with the clamps or the eyelet cable and switch to the standard program. The standard program will start from 0,5V to recover your battery.
Can I save a dead flat battery with the CANbus program?
No, but if you have one, You can use the Optimate 4 in the standard program, to charge/maintain directly on your battery .
How can I see which program has been selected?
LED’s 3 and 4 flash every 3 second to indicate the charger is in CAN-Bus mode
LED’s 3 and 4 don’t flash when the charger is in standard mode

What type and size batteries does OptiMate 4 charge?

Charge time on a flat but otherwise undamaged battery: a 12Ah battery should take no more than about 12 hours to progress to the self-discharge check. Deep-discharged batteries may take significantly longer, a full charge may not be achieved within the hour charge safety limit. In this case.
